PURPOSE:To realize the on-line control, without manual operation of a system containing an optical disk medium in which a both-face and a single face specifications are mixed by performing the preformat of an information byte representing the both-face/single-face specification on an optical disk medium, and reproducing the information byte. CONSTITUTION:A medium information readout command is sent from a host device 15 to a main control part 13 through a receiver 14. By reading out an ID part 21 on an approriate sector on the present track without transferring a track, because the preformat by every sector is applied on an optical medium, a discrimination circuit 11 takes synchronization by a data discrimination synchronizing byte 23, and reads out a both-face/single-face specification designating byte 24, and a track and sector number 25, and a read out value is held by a recognizing part 12. The main control part 13 takes out the both-face/ single-face specification designating byte 24 out of the above, and transfers the status of both-face designation or single-face designation to the host device 15 through the driver 14. The host device 15 can decide the kind of the optical disk medium by the above bit of information, and also a rear plane can be used if it is the both-face specification. |
