PURPOSE:To make it possible to store a required amount of electrolyte even if the height from the upper edges of plates to the electrolyte level is lowered by widening outward the side wall of a container locating above the upper ends of plates. CONSTITUTION:An electrolyte 4 is poured in a container 2 of a storage battery so that the level L of the electrolyte exists slightly upward than current collecting parts 5c, 6c of a cathode plate 5 and an anode plate 6. The cross section area S1(cm<2>) in an X1-X1 line of the container 2 between the electrolyte level 1 and the upper ends 5a, 6a of the plates 5, 6 is larger than the cross section area S2(cm<2>) in an X2-X2 line of the container 2. Therefore, the amount of electrolyte existing between the electrolyte level L and the upper ends 5a, 6a of the plates 5, 6 are increased in proportion to the cross section area. Drop in the electrolyte level caused by the evaporation of moisture from the electrolyte is decreased and a period of time to expose the upper ends of the plates is increased. Therefore, the capacity deterioration caused by the moisture evaporation from the electrolyte is retarded. |
