PURPOSE:To smoothly engage a pair of gears with a selector by making a hydraulic clutch become shut-off state once by the intermediate motion in case the engagement of a pair of gears of two pairs of speed change gears with a selectors is switched to that of another pair of gears with the selector. CONSTITUTION:The gear G14 secured to a main speed change shaft S1 and a backward driven gear G1R are formed with boss sections respectively to perform speed change by engaging each of the boss sections with a ring selector 60 selectively through a connecting member 59. In this case, an actuator 80 for moving the selector 60 is provided. And in case a manually operated valve 69 is set to 4 speed stages, the communication between a port 71 and an oil passage 77 is shut off, the pressure oil in a 4 speed stages and backward clutch 54 is discharged to make the clutch 54 become shut off state. And an oil 68 is communicated with a cylinder chamber 81 through an oil passage 76 to move the actuator 80 and a directional control valve 84 attached therewith in a body to the left, and after engagement of the selector 60 with the gear G14, the clutch 54 is switched to an engagement state once again.
