PURPOSE:To increase the capacity of a battery in upgrading the discharge capacity of a positive electrode by using a polyethylene powder of 1 mum to 30 mum in grain diameters as a binder. CONSTITUTION:A polyethylene powder of 1 mum to 30 mum in grain diameters is used as the binder of a positive electrode. In the case where the powder of polyethylene which has a low repellency to water and oil is used as the binder, the affinity between the positive electrode and an electrolytic solution is good. Since the resistance of the powder of polyethylene to chemicals is high, the powder is inactive in an organic solvent. Since the powder whose average grain diameter is less than 30 mum is used, the quantity of the binder to be added which is necessary to the molding of the mixed material for the positive electrode can be decreased to 0.1 to 10% by weight of the mixed material. Therefore, the necessary quantity of the binder can be much decreased in comparison with that of the binder which amounts to 15 to 25% by weight when a powder whose average grain diameter is more than 30 mum is used. |
