PURPOSE:To eliminate dumping of a wire, by a method wherein an electrode layer is formed on the surface of a wire before electric discharge machining of an object to be machined, during the electric discharge machining, the electrode layer is consumed, and after the electric discharge machining, the remaining electrode layer is removed to always bring the wire into a usable state. CONSTITUTION:An electrode material is electro-deposited on the surface of wire in a way to cause an endless wire 11 to pass an electrode layer forming means 14. A wire 11a, on the surface of which an electrode layer 19 is formed, is conveyed to an electric discharge machining position P, discharge is generated between the wire 11a and an object 12 to be machined by means of a voltage applied therebetween to machine the object 12 to be machined. In the wire 11 after the electric discharge machining, a part of the electrode layer 19 consumed by the electric discharge machining, the wire is conveyed from the electric discharge machining position P to an electrode removing means 13, where the remaining electrode layer 19 is molten for removal to form the original wire 11. Thereafter, the wire 11 is fed in an endless manner to the electrode layer forming means 14 again, and in following processes, the aboves are repeated.
