PURPOSE:To eliminate ozone which is generated as soon as a corona discharge electrode generates a corona ion, to prevent ozone from exerting an influence on electrification of a photosensitive body, and to execute a good electrification, by installing the corona discharge electrode on an opening surface of a shield electrode or to the outside of the opening surface. CONSTITUTION:As for a corona electrifier, when a distance extending from the bottom face of a shield electrode 2 to a corona discharge electrode 1, and height of a side wall of the shield electrode 2 are denoted as (a) and (b), respectively, the corona discharge electrode 1 is provided on a position which becomes a relation of a>=b. In case the corona electrifier is installed and a corona ion is radiated to the surface of a photosensitive body, since the photosensitive body 4 is rotating in the direction as indicated with an arrow, a lamellar air current is generated between the corona electrifier and the photosensitive body 4. Also, ozone 3 which is generated at the time of radiating the corona ion does not collect between the corona discharge electrode 1 and the shield electrode 2, but eliminated to the outside by an influence of the lamellar air current. Moreover, since an air current is generated in the vicinity of an opening of the shield electrode 2, air current is generated in the bottom part of the shield electrode 2, as well, and eliminated to the outside together with ozone.
