PURPOSE:To execute a character recognition with the high operability, comparing a character code data of an input character storage means with each character code data generated by referring to a dictionary means corresponding to a character kind from the image data of an extraction storage means. CONSTITUTION:An image scanner 2 is operated, an original document is read in a state that is remains an image data, and an original character extracted screen is displayed on a CRT 3. Also, on the CRT 3, an extracted frame 21 is displayed by inverting a part of an image picture. Subsequently, a frame 21 is moved to an optional part by operating a keyboard 1, and the image data of a part of the frame 21 is extracted as a same image and stored temporarily in an HDD 7. In such state, the same character-string as the character- string of the sample image is inputted from the keyboard 1, and its character code data is stored in the HDD 7. An optical character recognizing device 6 discriminates the character kind of an original by comparing the stored character code data with image data of a recognizing dictionary corresponding to a character kind from the image data.
