PURPOSE:To make it possible to make uniform always the number of acting abrasive particles and the distance between acting abrasive particles, by covering the outer surface of ultra-abrasive particles with a binder by a predetermined thickness, and by distributing these particles in an abrasive layer at a predetermined density in a substantially uniform condition. CONSTITUTION:A binder 5 is coated on the outer surface of abrasive particles made of such as diamond or the like, with a predetermined thickness 8. In the case of metal coating, self-diffusion is effected between the coated layers due to the surface energy of the metal and the thermal energy, and therefore, a sintered body is obtained while the abrasive particles 2 being held therein. At this time contraction occurs with a contraction amount which depends upon the quality of the powder, a pressed powder molding condition and a sintering condition. When compression molding and heated sintering are made under a predetermined condition, the distance between the ultra- abrasive particles 2 are made to be constant so that a grindstone having the ultra- abrasive particles 2 uniformly distributed therein is obtained, by controlling the thickness of the covering layer, the distance between the ultra-abrasive particles 2 is changed, thereby it is possible to control the density of the abrasive particles in an abrasive layer 3.
