PURPOSE:To obtain an electrode which has a long life and a high capacity and is excellent in the coefficient of utilization of occluded hydrogen, by making the electrode contain a prescribed hydrogen occlusion alloy. CONSTITUTION:An electrode is made to contain a hydrogen occlusion alloy represented as Mm1-xAxNiaCobMc where Mm denotes a Misch metal, A denotes at least one element selected from a group comprising rare earth elements, Mg, Ca, Ti, Zr, Th and Hf, M denotes at least one element selected from another group comprising V, Nb, Ta, Mn, Fe, Cu, Zn, Mo, Ga, Sn, W, Ag, In, Ge, Tl, Pb, Sb and Bi, and a, b, c and x are conditioned as 4.5<=a+b+c<=5.5, 0<=c<=1.0 and 0<x<= 0.5. As a result an electrode is obtained in which, the deterioration of the properties of the electrode caused by the corrosion of the alloy and the decrease in the capacity of the battery caused by the fine powdering of the alloy are small, the coefficient of utilization of occluded hydrogen in the electrode good, the life of the electrode is long, and the capacity of the electrode is high throughout the long-period of cycles. |
