(A) A novel material, in the form of a cast piece of cast iron, has a certain depth (pref. 5-25 mm) of nodular cast iron at at least one of its surfaces, the rest of the cast piece being of at least partially vermicular cast iron. (B) Prodn. of material (A) involves pouring molten cast iron, contg. conventional catalysts and additives, for forming nodular and vermicular cast irons, into a mould having at least one chill wall portion. (C) Also claimed are novel glass moulding moulds made of material (A), the nodular cast iron forming the part of the moulds which contacts molten glass.
