PURPOSE:To obtain a silver halide photographic emulsion high in sensitivity in the red wavelength region and small in change due to time lapse by incorporating at least one of specified sensitizing dyes. CONSTITUTION:Sensitivity, and stability against time lapse can the both enhanced by incorporating in the silver halide emulsion one of the sensitizing dyes represented by the formula shown on the right in which Z<1> is one of naphtho[2,1-d]thiazole ring, a naphtho[1,2-d]thiazole ring, a naphtho[2,3- d]thiazole ring, a naphtho[2,1-d]selenazole ring, a naphtho[1,2-d]selenazole ring, and a naphtho[2,3-d]thiazole ring; Z<2> is one of an nonsubstituted benzoselenazole ring, a naphtho[2,1-d]thiazole ring, a naphtho[1,2-d]thiazole ring, and a naphtho[2,3-d]thiazole ring; each of R<1> and R<2> is optionally substituted alkyl; X is an anion; and m is 1 or 2, and when the dye forms an intramolecular salt, n is 1.
