PURPOSE:To enhance printing quality by performing printing so as to eliminate the gap between lines after the finish of the printing of one line, by indicating the scanning start position of a carriage having a printing head mounted thereon and setting paper feed quantity corresponding to pattern information to be printed. CONSTITUTION:A rule mode is selected from a keyboard 1 and a printing start position is indicated by a scanning start position indicating key 1-1. When a printing direction or a printing figure is indicated, paper feed quantity is determined on the basis of the figure pattern information thereof to be stored in LPCH of RAM 3 to perform the printing of one line. The thermal head of a printer part 6 is contacted with paper and the counter CNT of RAM 3 is brought to 0. Pattern information is read from ROM 4 and a carriage is moved to perform the printing of one line and the counter CNT of the number of printing characters of RAM 3 is brought to +1. After the finish of the printing of one line, the carriage is retracted by the distance corresponding to the printed character, that is, the number of CNTs to be returned to a scanning start position and paper feed is performed on the basis of the value of LPCH of RAM 3 to finish the printing operation.
