NEW MATERIAL:An isatin derivative shown by formula I (X is H, halogen, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, amino, acylamino or alkoxycarbonyl; n is 1 or 2; Y is 2-4C straight-chain or branched alkylene chain; R<1> is 3-5C straight-chain or branched alkyl or 3-6C cycloalkyl; R<2> is 1-5C straight-chain or branched alkyl) and an acid addition salt thereof. EXAMPLE:1-(2-Diisopropylaminoethyl)isatin. USE:Useful as an intermediate for synthesizing isatin = 3-semicarbazone derivative suitable as a remedy for gastric ulcer and duodenal ulcer caused by stress, etc. PREPARATION:An isatin derivative shown by formula II is reacted with an amine derivative shown by formula III (X is acid residue) in the presence of a base such as sodium hydroxide, etc., in a solvent such as N,N- dimethylformamide, etc., to give a compound shown by formula I.
