PURPOSE:To prevent the generation of abnormal sound due to vibration or the damage of a photoconductive layer on a photosensitive body by separating a cleaning blade from the photosensitive body until toner adhesion is detected, and contacting the blade to the body at the time of detection. CONSTITUTION:A signal 46 detecting the replacement of a photosensitive drum 1 by a new drum or the cleaning of the drum 12 is inputted to a control circuit 40. Since no toner exists on the surface of the drum 12, the drum 12 is rotated by theta deg. so that cleaning operation is inhibited until adhering toner reaches the position of the cleaning blade 24, a solenoid 26 is driven with a prescribed time delay by a timing circuit 44. An erasing lamp 48 for removing the electrostatic charge on the drum 12 from which residual toner is removed is arranged on the lower side of a cleaning device 22. Consequently, the generation of the vibration due to the cleaning blade for the damage of the photosensitive body can be prevented.
