PURPOSE:To execute always the facsimile communication in the optimum condition in accordance with a receiving electric wave condition by detecting an electric field strength and changing over a communicating mode in accordance with the strength. CONSTITUTION:A receiving signal inputted to an electric field strength deciding device 2 is detected and amplified by a detecting amplifier 21, and thereafter, compared with a level L0 by a level comparator 22. Here, a setting level L0, when it is received by a G3 mode, is set to the electric field strength of the receiving signal beforehand which picture information can sufficiently judge. By receiving the result from the level comparator 22, a FAX system control part 35, when the electric field strength of the receiving electric wave at such a time is a prescribed level or below, controls a transmitting control part 34 so as to execute the transmitttng control means by a G2 mode. On the other hand, in case the electric field strength when a calling signal is received is a prescribed level or above, a FAX system control part 35 controls the transmitting control part 34 so as to execute a G3 mode transmitting control means.
