PURPOSE:To obtain the title filter capable of rapidly separating oil and water by scooping up the water floating on the surface of oil with the aggregate constituting the filter, consisting of the fibers having specified critical surface tension, and having specified oil permeability. CONSTITUTION:The filter is produced with the aggregate consisting of the fibers such as polyethylene and polypropylene having <=40dyne/cm critical surface tension and having >=5l/m<2>.min oil permeability. Consequently, when the water floating on the surface of oil is scooped up by the filter along with the oil, the oil alone permeates through the filter, the water remains on the filter, and hence a small amt. of water floating on the surface of oil can be rapidly and efficiently separated. Besides, the permeability of oil means the permeability obtained when the filter is mounted in a membrane filter holder and the head of oil is kept at 9cm.
