NEW MATERIAL:A compound expressed by the formula (A is H, amino- protecting group, acidic amino acid residue, etc.; X is amino acid residue or amino acid residue having a protecting group; Y is 2-6C alkylene or 2-6C alkylene having OH; R is OH or carboxyl-protecting group). EXAMPLE:Glycine-gamma-aminobutyric acid. USE:A central nervous agent or synthetic intermediate therefor having ameliorant action on psychotic symptoms, activating action on cerebral metabolism, sedative and analgesic action. PREPARATION:A partial peptide or amino acid capable of constituting a peptide compound expressed by the formula is condensed with the residual part thereof in a solvent, e.g. acetonitrile, etc., at -15 deg.C - room temperature for 1hr - 1 day and, as necessary, the deprotection is carried out to afford the aimed compound expressed by the formula.
