PURPOSE:To separate sludgy water into sludge and supernatant water without generating a retained part in a settling tank by introducing the sludgy water from the center part of the settling tank having a conical bottom part along the inclined surface at the bottom part, and naturally settling the sludge. CONSTITUTION:The conical bottom part 3 is provided at the lower end of the hollow columnar main part 2 in the settling tank 1, and an overflow part 4 for the supernatant water is furnished in the vicinity of the upper end. A center well 5 for introducing the sludgy water 11 is provided at the center part of the main part 2, and a group of inlet pipes 7 horizontally extending to the inner wall of the main part 2 from the lower end are radially furnished. The sludgy water 11 is introduced into a dispersion pipe 8, and discharged and dispersed from a discharge port at the tip to the upper end position of the inclined surface 3' of the bottom part 3. Accordingly, the sludge component 12 having higher sp.gr. is settled, discharge pipe 10, and the supernatant water 13 is successively sent up and discharged from the overflow part 4.
