PURPOSE:To prevent the penetration of free oxygen, water, etc., from a substrate or a dielectric layer in contact with the substrate and to assure the long- term stability of an optical disk by forming the 1st protective layer consisting of a prescribed material, recording layer and 2nd protective layer on the transparent substrate having guide tracks. CONSTITUTION:The 1st protective layer consisting of the passive state layer 5 consisting of a passive state metal or the dielectric layer 6 and the passive state layer 5 is formed on the transparent substrate 1 having the guide tracks. The recording layer 3 and the 2nd protective layer 4 are formed thereon. Ti, Cr, Ta, Al, Nb, etc., are used for the passive state metal. The passive state metal easily forms a dense oxide layer on the surface by reacting with oxygen to prevent the penetration of the free oxygen and water and to prevent the oxidation of the recording layer 3 as well.
