PURPOSE:To improve a hiding characteristic and the contrast (ratio of light and shade) of an image screen and to prevent malfunction by increasing the thickness of light absorptive layers and overlapping the ends of the light absorptive layers to the peripheral ends of color filter layers adjacent thereto. CONSTITUTION:The red filter layer 2R, green filter layer 2G and blue filter layer 2B are provided on a transparent substrate 1 so as to be respectively independent from each other. The light absorptive layers 3 are provided in the spacings between said layers. The light absorptive layers 3 are set thicker than any of the filter layers 2 and have the correspondingly higher density and light absorptivity. The light absorptive layers 3 are provided in the spacings between the filter layers 2 after the filter layers 2 are formed. The light absorptive layers are provided always slightly broader than the width of the spacings and therefore, said layers are formed in such a state in which the upper ends of the light absorptive layers 3 overlap on the peripheral ends of the adjacent filter layers. A top coat layer 4 is thinly coated atop the filter layers 2 and the light absorptive layers 3 and a transparent conductive film consisting of indium-tin oxide ITO or the like is formed as picture element electrodes 5 thereon. |
