PURPOSE:To certainly ignite fuel without using any auxiliary fuel, by directly igniting pulverized coal by a heating plate provided on a flame stabilizer. CONSTITUTION:A pulverized coal 4 and a primary air 5 which are fed through a primary sleeve 8 at the rate of 15-20[m/s] collide against a heating plate 3, while a secondary air 35 being fed through a secondary sleeve 9 collides against a flame stabilizer 2. They form a circulating swirl zone 36 in the flame stabilizer 2. The flowing rate in the circulating swirl zone is as low as 0-5[m/s] at the absolute value, and it makes the swirl zone most suitable for ignition and holding of flames. The heating plate 3 which is heated up to 1,000-1,200 deg.C is located in this zone, and when particles of pulverized coal from an ignition burner 13 collide against the plate 3, the volatile component in the pulverized coal is continuously ignited, forming flames in the circulating swirl zone 36. the flames spread gradually to the pulverized coal which is fed by a pilot burner 12 outside the swirl zone and to that being fed by a main burner 11 further outside of the pilot burner 12, spreading to the pulverized coal in the whole furnace. In such a manner, pulverized coal is certainly ignited without using any auxiliary fuel for ignition such as a light oil or a heavy oil, and without exhausting much NOx.
