PURPOSE:To enable safe one-man measurement regardless of a measuring direction, by using a steel band formed in a fine cylinder provided with the required stiffness and available for deformation into a flat band by elasticity as a scale. CONSTITUTION:A steel scale part 2 is formed into a fine cylinder provided with stiffness enough to maintain its upright position outside a case 1 and when it is accommodated in the case 1, it is transformed elastically into a flat band shape. The cylinder is divided longitudinally and for accommodation of the band, it is divided along a seam by a projection 3 and formed into a band as squeezed by rollers 4, 5 and wound around a drum 8 swing rubbingly inside the case 1 by spring forces 7, 7'. The drum 8 is stopped by operation of a stopper 12. Thus, the scale part 2 can, by its own stiffness, be used safely, regardless of a specimen's lengthwise direction, because of smooth outside surface of the cylinder.
