PURPOSE:To prevent a vertical irregularity in display from becoming visualized even in case of a smaller-gradation-step voltage by dividing signal electrodes into the two upper and lower half parts of a screen and making a line sequence scan on the upper half screen and lower half screen at the same time. CONSTITUTION:Electrodes 12 and 13 are a signal electrode group for the upper half screen and a signal electrode group for the lower half screen which are obtained by dividing a signal electrode group vertically into two. Scanning electrodes which scan signal electrodes Da1-Dan for the upper half screen are m/2 electrodes 14 G1-Gi-1 and scanning electrodes scanning signal electrodes Db1-Dbn for the lower half screen are m/2 electrodes 15 Gi-Gm. Thus, the signal electrodes are divided by two into the upper half and lower half parts of the screen and the scanning electrodes are scanned in pairs simultaneously in line sequence from the upper end part of the upper half screen and the upper end part of the lower half screen are scanned in pairs simultaneously in line sequence. The time interval of one frame is a half as long as before and the effective voltage difference between the upper and lower screen end parts decreases.
