The present invention relates to a typewriter intended for communication, particularly for the blind, using the numbers, letters and more generally all the characters of the common alphabet laid out on a conventional keyboard, each key of the said keyboard activating, directly or in a controlled manner, a striker striking the characters on a stiff sheet laid on a drum for carrying out all the displacements. This machine is characterised in that any character 9 is printed by superficial deformation of the stiff sheet 5 reproducing, on the front of the sheet, the recessed inverted image of the said character, the printing of successive characters taking place from right to left so that after turning over the stiff sheet 5, all the signs, letters or numbers appear in relief, on the back of the sheet, in the normal reading order and can then be read in a tactile or visual manner. <IMAGE>
