Method and device for recovering the timing and phase of a digital signal, using the derivative of the signal, and system for receiving this signal using the device. According to the method of the invention, the signal is processed in a means 24 which provides the derivative thereof with respect to time and the device comprises this means and a phase-lock loop 28 to 36 provided in order to determine, for each pulse of the signal, the instant at which the derivative vanishes, this instant being taken as optimal instant for deciding the type of the pulse. The system comprises the device and a recursive decision equaliser in the loop 40 which samples the signal via the clock signal HR provided by the loop and produces a signal DR serving to process an error signal SCE generated in the loop. <IMAGE>
