PURPOSE:To obtain a polymer having improved thermal stability without washing and removing a catalyst, by polymerizing trioxane or a mixture thereof with a cyclic ether, etc., in the presence of a catalyst, e.g. boron trifluoride, etc., and adding a metal sulfite to terminate the polymerization reaction. CONSTITUTION:Trioxane or a mixture thereof with a cyclic ether and/or cyclic acetal, e.g. 1,3-dioxolane, etc., is solution or suspension polymerized in the presence of a polymerization catalyst, e.g. boron trifluoride, hydrate thereof and a coordination compound of boron trifluoride with an organic compound having oxygen or sulfur atom, e.g. diethyl ether, etc. A metal sulfite, e.g. sodium sulfite, etc., is then added to the formed polymer to terminate the polymerization reaction.
