PRODUCTION OF PLASTICIZER

PURPOSE:To obtain an ester plasticizer producible without using washing process and having excellent acid value and electrical properties, by reacting a specific alcohol with an aromatic or aliphatic acid in the presence of a sulfonic acid and purifying the reaction product. CONSTITUTION:A 4-13C straight- or branched-chain alcohol is made to react with an aromatic acid or a 4-10C aliphatic acid in the presence of a sulfonic acid (e.g. p-toluenesulfonic acid). The obtained ester (e.g. di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate) is treated, without alkali washing process, by adding an alkali (e.g. Ca or Mg oxide) and an adsorbent at an amount of 0.01-3wt% based on the crude ester and the product is dehydrated and filtered.
