PURPOSE:To obtain an inexpensive metal sheet for sealing soft glass having stable and superior solderability, by providing a composition consisting of respectively specified amounts of C, N, Si, Mn, and Cr and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities and by applying Ni plating to the surface. CONSTITUTION:The metal sheet for sealing soft glass has a composition consisting of, by weight, <=0.06% C, <=0.06% N, <=1.0% Si, <=1.0% Mn, 16-30% Cr, and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities and also has an Ni-plated surface. As to the thickness of the above Ni plating, a thickness that allows Ni to barely remain uniformly in the surface layer part of the alloy after the removal of oxide film suffices. However, the thickness of Ni plating exerts a bad influence upon the thickness of Cr oxide film formed in the outer layer of the Ni plating, that is, Cr in steel diffuses through the Ni plating layer to form a Cr oxide layer in the outermast layer and the thickness of the oxide film varies with temp., time, and the thickness of Ni plating at the time of oxidation. Accordingly, it is preferable that Ni plating thickness is regulated to 2-4mu in order to obtain the oxide film thickness suitable for sealing glass and also to obtain suitable oxide film under the oxidizing condition of 1,000 deg.C.
