The wood to be dried 11 is inserted into the drying chamber 5 of a substantially cylindrical vessel 1; inside the vessel 1 overpressure and underpressure are alternately created, the overpressure phase being accompanied by an increase in the temperature. During this pressurised heating phase, the pores of the wood dilate, which improves the diffusion of the water contained in the internal layers of the wood in the course of the underpressure phase which follows.
<??>The overpressure and underpressure phases are reproduced one or more times depending on the type and the thickness of the wood.
<??>Drying is thus obtained without forming cracks in the wood.
