PURPOSE:To make it possible to make focusing efficiently and quantitatively by providing an indicating means that indicates focusing test, a scale data storing means that stores display scale data and a test pattern read data processing means that displays multilevel picture image data of read test pattern. CONSTITUTION:When focusing test is instructed by an instructing means 16, a reading section 2 is started and reads the white and black test pattern of a test scene, and a test pattern read data processing means 18 displays read multivalue image data and scale data stored in a scale data storing means 17 correspondingly in a display section 12. As the display is multilevel image data, if boundary of white and black of the test pattern P which is originally close to binary is blurred by multilevel pseudo coloring, defocus can be recognized easily. Accordingly, defocus can be made out easily and quantitatively. Thus, focusing can be made at high efficiency.
