PURPOSE:To enable high pressure fuel supply without causing suction of air at start or vapor lock under high temperature by constructing a fuel pump apparatus with a high pressure mechanical diaphragm fuel pump and a low pressure high flow feed pump. CONSTITUTION:Fuel is fed forcibly from a fuel tank 13 through a feed pump 12 having a low pressure high flow delivery performance to a mechanical diaphragm fuel pump 11 where it is boosted to such pressure level as being requested by a fuel injector 16 and fed to an engine. Consequently, an inconvenience occurring when the fuel is sucked from the fuel tank 13 through a long fuel pipe 18 only by means of the mechanical diaphragm fuel pump 11, i.e. suction of air at start, is prevented and the vapor lock under high temperature is suppressed. When a portion of fuel fed by means of the feed pump 12 is returned through a fuel return port to the fuel tank 13, the vapor occurring in the fuel pipe 18 is suppressed and removed effectively.
