PURPOSE:To eliminate mistake of designation of character type by superposing a document character image and a sample image. CONSTITUTION:A hard disk device (HDD) 7 is provided in the body 6 of the device as a storage unit, and a central processing unit (CPU) 10, a picture memory (VRAM) 11 and a CRT controller 12 which is a display controlling device are provided. The central processing unit 10 reads document character image data from HDD 7 and obtains exclusive logical sum with sample image data stored in the VRAM 11, and by replacing the result wit the sample image data, and displays superposing the document character image.
