PURPOSE:To maintain the charging efficiency of suction air at a constant level and improve the stability of combustion, by providing a spray generating device for supplying a cool spray into a fluid passage and also providing in the fluid passage an openable valve adapted to be opened at the end of an exhaust stroke. CONSTITUTION:A fluid passage 14 is connected to a combustion chamber 9 defined and formed of ceramic, which fluid passage 14 generates a swirl of high-pressure air along the circumference of the combustion chamber 9. The fluid passage 14 is provided with a spray generating device 23 for supplying a cool spray into the fluid passage 14. An openable valve 20 adapted to be opened at the end of an exhaust stroke is provided in the fluid passage 14 on the combustion chamber side with respect to the generating device 23. When the exhaust stroke of an engine comes to its end, the openable valve 20 in the fluid passage 14 is opened to thereby supply into the combustion chamber 9 a cool fluid as a mixture of the cool spray and the high-pressure air. Thus, the charging efficiency of suction air may be maintained at a constant level to improve the stability of combustion.
