A package strapping machine comprises a slotted package-supporting platform 2 and a pivotal member 7 adapted to turn on a main shaft 6 mounted on the base plate 4 of the machine in parallel with the direction in which a strap B is advanced. Two clamps 11,13 and a pressing device 12 (Fig. 2) are slidably mounted on one side of the pivotal member 7 and are movable upwardly and downwardly thereon by a cam mechanism 10 so as to press the strap B against the undersurface of a lateral projection 8 provided on the upper free end of the pivotal member. The pivotal member 7 and its projection 8 co-operates with a sidepiece 30 secured to the undersurface of the platform 2 to prevent the overlapped strap portions from widthwise deviation. A laterally displaceable blade 41 is provided for insertion between the overlapped strap portions to heat the same prior to pressing of said portions by device 12 against the projections 8 to weld said strap portions together. A compartmented casing 58 (Fig. 7), containing activated charcoal and provided with an exhauster 60, is disposed in the underside of the platform to remove odours given off by the welding process. <IMAGE> |
