A method of transporting explosives wherein cases of the explosives at a supply point are loaded into lockable containers (18) the interior linings of which are made from anti-spark material eg hardboard or plywood. A number of similar containers are secured to a vehicle which transports them to a mine at which explosives are to be used. The containers are then loaded onto a mine car which is conveyed to the underground location. The containers then act as magazines from which the explosive is used as required. The containers may have lockable doors and be provided with means by which they are secured in position on the vehicle and minecar.
