PURPOSE:To achieve a higher productivity, by irradiating a transparent conducting film placed on a black back plate slantly by a halogen lamp. CONSTITUTION:Electrode plates used as display element are cut out from a continuous transparent conducting film sheet one or several at a time and sent to a process in which a conducting layer is etched in a specified pattern as electrode plate. The film herein used is, for example, a polyethylene terephtharate film having a transparent electrode film comprising indium stannic oxide or gold on the surface thereof. After the cutting of the electrode plates once unwound through a guide roll or the like, the residual film is wound with another coil. During the movement of the film, a black back plate is placed on the back of the film at a part located before the cutting of the electrode plates and lighted by a halogen lamp from the surface thereof. This enables visual inspection of cracks on the transparent electrode film thereby improving the productivity noticeably while facilitating the production of uniform liquid crystal cells.
