NEW MATERIAL:A compound expressed by formula I (R and R' are 1-5C straight-chain alkyl, provided that the number of carbon atoms in either one of R and R' is even). EXAMPLE:A compound expressed by formula V. USE:An electrooptical display material useful for manufacturing liquid display cells, drivable at a low voltage and having a high speed of response. PREPARATION:An enamine expressed by formula II is reacted with a halovinyl 4-alkylphenyl ketone expressed by formula III in the presence of a base, e.g. triethylamine, etc., in a solution of ether, etc., and the reaction product is reacted with an acid to afford a compound expressed by formula IV, which is further reacted with ammonium acetate in a solvent, e.g. acetic acid to provide the aimed compound expressed by formula I.
