Aqueous solutions of methyltrialkoxysilanes and alkali metal silicates with a long shelf life

The present invention relates to aqueous solutions of methyltrialkoxysilanes and alkali metal silicates which are clear, have a long shelf life, and are nonflammable and nontoxic and are thus easy to handle; they can be converted at any time with the aid of known gelling agents into very elastic, ageing-resistant gels which exhibit virtually no syneresis. They are therefore suitable, for example, as valuable components for ground waterproofing or soil stabilisation.
