A process for producing a foam-backed upholstery part is described, in which a covering (23), which is provided with a seam (34), is placed on the opening (18) of a cavity of a mould (10), provided with ribs (26), and is fastened on the mould (10). The covering is then gripped by a vice (36) along the seam (34) and is moved into the mould cavity (12). The covering (23) is applied with the seam (34) against the rib (26) and is sucked snugly against the contour (14) of the mould cavity (14). Subsequently, the mould cavity (12) is closed and filled with a plastic foam. After fastening on the mould (10), the covering (23) is made to rise convexly above the opening (18) of the mould cavity (12) and the convexly risen covering (23) is then gripped by the vice (36). <IMAGE>
