For the application of liquids onto travelling filaments, applicator rolls are known which dip into a liquid bath, as well as stationary wetting bodies from that surface of which which is contacted by the filament a liquid stream emerges. As a result of the high relative velocity between the travelling filament and the roll or the surfaces, the adhesive forces are not sufficient to effect an adequate liquid absorption. To remedy this, the roll surface (4) is driven with at least 50% of the filament velocity. Upstream of the filament contact, a wetting body (7) is arranged which covers the roll surface (4) radially. Between the wetting body (7) and the roll surface (4) a liquid feed takes place. The wetting body (7) is designed such that it extends into the interstice between the roll surface (4) and the filament (1) running against it. <IMAGE>
