An alarm signalling system having a multiplicity of detectors connected to one or more two-wire loop lines exhibits for each detector a line module which is provided with a control device. The line module contains a switching means which, when the alarm signalling system is taken into operation, is at first open. The first line module connected to the central station receives an address from the central station which is stored in the control device, and then the command for closing the switching means. In this manner, all line modules to which the detectors are connected are provided in succession with addresses, as a result of which they can be selectively activated by the central station and can receive commands and transmit messages to the central station.
