PURPOSE:To soften the shock at stopping and at the same time improve the accuracy of the stop position of a mold opening and closing device by a method wherein the oil pressures in the feed side oil chamber and in the return side oil chamber of a mold shifting oil pressure apparatus, which controls the actuation of the mold opening and closing device, is released just before the stopping of the mold opening and closing device and, after that, the mold opening and closing device is stopped completely. CONSTITUTION:The kinetic energy of shifting members such as a mold and the like is absorbed by the oil pressure in the return side oil chamber 28 of a mold shifting oil pressure apparatus 22 during the deceleration of mold shifting speed. When the mold shifting speed lowers to the value preset just before the stopping of a mold, the oil pressures in the return side oil chamber and in the feed side oil chamber 30 are simultaneously released, thus keeping the mold shifting at very slow speed due to the inertial of the mold. When the mold reaches its stop position in the state just mentioned above, the feed side oil chamber and the return side oil chamber of the mold shifting oil pressure apparatus are closed and consequently the shifting of the mold is stopped. In this case, the action of the oil pressure in the return side oil chamber is to absorb only the inertia of the mold and the like, which shift at very slow speed and no more, resulting in no abrupt oil pressure rise. Consequently, the shockless and smooth stopping is made possible and further the accuracy of the stop position of the mold is also improved.
