Process and apparatus for removing mercury from solid mercury-containing materials

A process and an apparatus for removing mercury from solid bodies are proposed, in which the solid bodies are heated to evaporate the mercury and the mercury-enriched gas is condensed. The mercury vapour-enriched gas is fed from an evaporation furnace into a cooled condenser in which it is freed from a large part of the mercury by condensation. The gas exiting from the condenser is returned by a blower or fan in a closed circulation into the evaporation furnace and is there reenriched with mercury.
