PURPOSE:To enhance printing accuracy while reducing the blank of the upper end part of recording paper, by supporting a bail shaft by the rack member meshed with the gear of said shaft and energizing the bail shaft in the platen direction by an energizing member to bring a ball roller in contact with a platen. CONSTITUTION:A ball roller capable of being brought into contact with a platen 5 is mounted rotatably on a bail shaft 51 extending along the platen 5. Further there are mounted the gear 54 fixed to the bail shaft, a rack member having a groove 52 extending in a direction separating from and contacting with the platen, and having a gear meshing with said gear 54 formed on the single inner surface of the groove thereof and an energizing member for energizing the bail shaft in the platen direction. By this mechanism, the bail roller can be contracted with the platen at a position near to a printing position at an angle drawing up recording paper while the interface with the printing mechanism is avoided, and the blank of the upper end part of the recording paper can be reduced while the height of the printer is suppressed low, and the printing accuracy can be enhanced.
