In a device for fixing a grinding wheel (14) in an easily releasable manner to a grinding spindle (8) of a portable grinding machine having two flanges (11, 13) accommodating the grinding wheel (14) between them, in which the grinding spindle (8) consists, separately, of a hollow shaft (9) and an inner shaft (10), the inner shaft (10) carries at its free end one of the flanges (13) which is removable via a thread (12) in order to exchange the grinding wheel, said inner shaft (10) being axially displaceable with the aid of a thread (23) in order to tighten or loosen the tension, and for this purpose the end of the inner shaft (10) having a collar (17) which is supported in order to maintain the axial tensioned position of the inner shaft (10) in the tensioning direction, it is proposed, for the simple exchange of the grinding wheel without the use of tools, that as the support of the collar (17) of the inner shaft (10) this collar (17) is supported at the bottom by a bearing (19), preferably a rolling bearing, and that this bearing (19) and thus the inner shaft (10) is movable by the thread (23) in the axial direction with respect to the hollow shaft (9) and in this way the tension between the flanges (11, 13) can be removed or restored again in order to clamp the grinding wheel (14). <IMAGE>
