PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound useful for polyamide resins, etc., under mild condition in high yield, by catalytically hydrogenating 1,3-di-(4-pyridyl) propane using a palladium or rhodium based catalyst as a catalyst. CONSTITUTION:1,3-Di(4-pyridyl)propane is catalytically hydrogenated using a palladium based catalyst, e.g., palladium-carbon, etc., or rhodium based catalyst, e.g. rhodium-carbon, etc., to (carry out nuclear hydrogenation using the raw material in the form of a free acid) and afford the aimed 1,3-di(4-piperidyl) propane expressed by the formula.
