PURPOSE:To easily operate a key and to improve the convenience of an equipment by providing a holding selection means to identify the type of the key and selecting and activating either a self holding mechanism or a common holding mechanism according to the result. CONSTITUTION:Respective telephone sets 1 have a line wire key C for a line wire communication corresponding to respective line wires 2 and an extension key I for communicating between the telephone sets. In a simple exchange 100, the holding selection means 200 for identifying the type of the keys is provided. The means 200 identifies the key operated by the telephone set 1 communicating with the line wire 2, activates the self holding mechanism 71 when the type of the key is the key C and activates the common holding mechanism when it is the key C. Accordingly, the telephone set communicating with other line wire during the communication with one line wire has to resume the communication with the line wire being held. And the telephone set communicating with other telephone set during the communication with the line wire can transfer the other telephone set to the line wire, and the key C or the key I can be operated once and the convenience of the equipment is improved.
