PURPOSE:To easily measure the film thickness of a cohesive material such as ink applied over the surfaces of a couple of rollers by measuring a disrupting sound at the downstream side of rolling contact part of the couple of rolling rollers. CONSTITUTION:When the couple of rollers 1 and 2 whose surfaces are coated with the cohesive material in thin films rotate contacting each other, the cohesive material is disrupted at the downstream side of the rolling contact parts where the surfaces of both rollers 1 and 2 leave each other to generate the disrupting sound. This disrupting sound is collected by a microphone 3 and decomposed selectively by band-pass filters 5a, 5b, and 5c to measure the respective quantities of sound pressure variation. The measured values of the disrupting sound are compared with the corresponding set value obtained previously on the basis of the relation between the disrupting sound and the film thickness of the cohesive material by an arithmetic circuit 6 to know the film thickness of the cohesive material on the couple of rollers 1 and 2. |
