PURPOSE:To rapidly replace a shaft seal material at low cost, by a method wherein the internal pressure of the shaft seal part at the part piercing through a wall body is usually made equal to the pressure in a liquid tank and released to atmospheric pressure at a required time to hold the atmospheric pressure. CONSTITUTION:After the elapse of a definite period, in replacing the gland packing 6 of a stuffing box 5, a changeover valve 12 is changed over to a dotted line state so as to allow the first pipe member 13a connected to a shaft seal part and the third pipe member 13c communicated with the open air to communicate with each other. By this method, the liquid in the tank flows out slightly through the gap between the shaft seal part and a main shaft 1 and the first and third pipe members 13a, 13c by the release of the pressure in the shaft seal part at the beginning of changeover but, immediately thereafter, a closure plate 11 deforms toward the wall surface of the tank by the pressure difference across the liquid tank as shown by a dotted line and the circumferential part thereof is contacted with the inner surface of a side wall A1 to stop the leakage of the liquid in the tank. |
