PURPOSE:To effectively collect a heavy metal ion, by using a water-soluble salt of N-dithiocarboxychitosan as a main component. CONSTITUTION:An aqueous solution containing 1-2% of a water-soluble salt such as an alkali metal or ammonium salt of dithiocarboxychitosan is added to an aqueous solution containing a heavy metal ion. After stirring for 5-60min, the formed insoluble salt is separated. Prior to adding a heavy metal ion collector, pH of the aqueous solution containing the heavy metal ion is adjusted to 2-10., pref., to 3-8. The proper addition amount of the heavy metal ion collector is 0.9-1.5 equivalent to the heavy metal ion contained in a liquid to be treated. By this method, equipment cost can be lowered.
